1. Fill with water or mouthwash Twist the tank off the body, fill it under the tap with lukewarm water — or half water, half mouthwash — and twist it back on.
Choose a nozzle
2. Choose a nozzle Four tips come in the box: standard, orthodontic, periodontal and tongue cleaner. Push the one you want onto the handle until it clicks.
Set the pressure
3. Set the pressure Start on Soft for the first week, especially if your gums bleed. Work up to Normal or Pulse once they have settled.
Trace the gumline
4. Trace the gumline Lean over the sink, close your lips loosely around the tip and follow the gumline, pausing a moment between each tooth.

Yes — that is exactly where a water flosser earns its keep. The orthodontic tip is shaped for brackets and wires, and a jet of water cannot snag or pull on hardware the way string floss does.
